Welcome to the Year 4/5 page

Our teacher is Mrs Williams.

In our class we like to try our best, work hard and we always celebrate our success!

Here is an overview of our learning for this half term.

Homework will be given out on a Friday and is due back in the following Wednesday.  It will include reading, spellings and times tables as well as a short English and Maths activity based on the week’s learning.

Please take time to look at the homework with your child to see how they are doing.  If you do not have time to complete the homework at home with your child, they are invited to Homework club on a Monday 3.15 – 4pm.

Reading Books

Please try to hear your child read out loud at least 4 times a week and help them to improve their vocabulary and understanding.

Children must ensure that they bring their reading book into school each day and that their reading records are kept up to date and signed by parents.

Those children that read aloud at least 4 times a week will be rewarded with extra playtime on a Friday.

For the children in year 5, weekly spellings will involve learning 5 statutory Year 5 words and 7 words from a taught spelling pattern. For the children in year 4, weekly spellings will involve learning 5 statutory year 4 words and 7 words from the taught spelling patterns.

All Children will be tested every Friday on these spellings.

Year 4/5 have PE every Wednesday morning therefore please ensure the correct kits are in school.  PE kits are also needed for some after school clubs. Twice a week, the children participate in a 1 mile run around the school grounds, for which trainers are needed.

We go swimming every Thursday and the children need their swimming kits and a swimming hat.  If your child wants to wear goggles please provide us with a short letter to give your permission.  Because we walk to the swimming pool, the children will also need to bring a suitable coat into school on a Thursday.

**Please check your child’s book bag for any letters that may have been given out**
