EYFS Curriculum Overview

Learning in Foundation Stage

In Foundation Stage we follow the Revised Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, where our learning takes place through purposeful play.

We teach through a play based curriculum where all areas of learning are covered through play both indoors and outdoors. We are always busy learning together during continuous provision time and we take part in activities each day about the topic we are learning about.

Topics are planned that follow the children’s interests, capture their imagination and develop their learning in the following areas:

  • Communication and Language
  • Literacy
  • Physical Development
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

Each day the children take part in daily phonics and maths which are based are ‘fun’ activities to develop their learning. We also take part in dough disco, funky fingers and zumba activities to develop our fine motor control.

Reading Books

Please try to hear your child read each night as this helps develop their understanding about the sequence of a story and the development of sounds in words.

Children must ensure that they bring their reading books into school each day and that their reading records are kept up to date and signed by parents.

Our class takes part in PE every Thursday morning.  Please ensure that your child has their kit in school and no earrings are worn on these days.

Snack Money

Each Monday we ask for £1 donation for snack this helps us to buy ingredients for snack and other activities your child takes part in.

These are some of the foods we share at snack time: toast, breadsticks, crumpets, pancakes, cereal, crackers.

Word boxes

In Reception we have a word box that contain words we are trying to learn to read, please help your child to learn these words at home.

**Please check your child’s book bag for any letters that may have been given out.**
